Package sources

Asked by Charlieb000

in suse i was able to choose where the packages are. i am trying ubuntu with Synaptic package manager, is it possible to add a directory of packages i downloaded already as a source of packages because i dont want to download them all again when i reinstall. i tried to add the CDROM by clicking on the obvious buttons in Synaptic and it turned out to be a flop, and posted a bug on that one.... it cannot access the Cdrom.

the packages i have chosen already take an hour to download, i prefer to specify a source rather than dumping them all in the package directory (havnt started looking for it yet)

in Suse i was able to choose sources and specify what order they must be tried, so i can move the CD to highest preference. unfortunately i had to add packman manually and it dont have any "universe" thing like ubuntu does.

Charlie.

this reminds me of trying to adapt something to suit a single allowable standard (only one way of adding packages), instead of allowing more than one standard - changing the OS for different methods of installing.......

i am not fully satisfied because of that reason, because the method Ubuntu uses seems "old".

Can you help with this problem?
