Darkice is a console only application, and will not have an entry in the applications menu. If you want to use it, have a look at the manual page (open a terminal and type "man darkice")

http://man.cx/darkice

If you need a graphical front end, there is a program called 'darksnow'

http://packages.ubuntu.com/maverick/darksnow

I have not used either of these packages myself, so I cannot comment on their quality or completeness.

I'm sorry but I don't know how to get to the "Manual Page" in order to open Darkice as you suggested. So, could you tell me how to do it and recommend a good set of learning video so I can get up to speed on operating Ubuntu. I would prefer videos if possible since I can review and learn faster, Thanks,
                Timothy.

There is a bit of a learning curve associated with this, so you may need to stick at it. To open a terminal (where you can enter console commands), you can press Ctrl+Alt+T, or select "terminal" from the applications menu.

You probably want to read on how to use the terminal first though, as it is considered a bit user-unfriendly, but extremely powerful.

This book is free as a PDF, or you can buy the physical version:
http://www.ubuntupocketguide.com/index_main.html

Have a flip through chapter 5. The links I provided above (http://man.cx/darkice) holds a copy of the manpage.

Thank you for your response and I'm having a little trouble following your advice. Thanks for the tip on the user manual and I opened the PDF and went to chapter 5 to see how the "Terminal" works and in the examples given which I tried to follow don't work in the Terminal. e.g. upon typing in 1s I receive an error, "command not found" so I'm puzzled. Why can I use the Terminal to access My file categories as chapter 5 suggests?
Thanks Timothy.

ELL s, not ONe-S, as in the two alphabetical letters, Ell and Ess, in lowercase one after another.

Can you help with this problem?
