Why synaptic doesn't offer you the option of backing up configs?

Asked by Brian Fuller

When I install software and the configuration file is supposed to be changed for it, instead of only being able to chose a replace or a keep, you should be allowed to do a backup.

Currently:
'Replace the configuration file /etc/ntp.conf?'
Keep Replace
Should be:
'Replace the configuration file /etc/ntp.conf?'
Keep Replace Backup
