Unable to Install VMware Player from Synaptic

VMware Player does not install.

Error Msg. E: vmware-player: subprocess post-installation script returned error exit status 1

Installation stops several times advising that a particular file already exists. After saying Yes to those overwrites. The above Error Msg. is reported..
