uninstall ubuntu

Asked by Alexandre Englert

Hi, I have my hd partitioned so that Ubuntu 6.10 divides space with Windows Vista. I want to uninstall Ubuntu 6.10 and install Ubuntu 7.04 instead from the CD. How should I proceed so that it doesn't format all hd (with WVista part)?

Thanks

Alexandre

I tried to do that but it created two new partitions! Now I have two Ubuntu versions and three partitions in my computer (with also Windows Vista). I tried to format or delete the old partition with Ubuntu 6.10 but the partition manager said it wasn´t possible. Can anyone help me in deleting/formating these partitions?

Thanks a lot,

Alexandre

Try installing Gnome Partition Editor. It is a graphical application that should be reasonably easy to use. You may need to unmount a partition before deleting it.

Note you could have just upgraded 6.10 to 7.04 using upgrade manager:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/UpgradeFromOldVersion
This should be possible even without network access, would be somewhat more complicated though. On the other hand a fresh install has it's pros.

Can you help with this problem?
