Unable to install packages (linux-image-2.6.32-23-generic)

Every time I try to install packages with Update manager or Synaptic, I lately get this error:

E: linux-image-2.6.32-23-generic: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
E: linux-image-generic: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured
E: linux-generic: dependency problems - leaving unconfigured

In the log I've seen that the error occurs after this previous error: "Failed to run depmod"

Ubuntu Release 10.04
Kernel Linux 2.6.32-22 generic
GNOME 2.30.2

I have the same problem. I use ubuntu on a usb flash drive.
