need to remove unusable software that I downloaded

Asked by dawn kershaw

I installed the wrong version of Ubuntu. Now it's just sitting there taking up much needed space. The synaptic package manager won't let me 'un-install' it... It took almost 4 hours to load. How do I remove it ?

Well, I haven't had success getting the adobe flash player I downloaded to "work", and it has been a year since I switched from Windows to the Linux system, so I figured if I just 'up-grade' it would solve everything. I ordered a disc to up-grade to 10.04. I am currently running 8.04. I have been doing a LOT of research and getting nothing but conflicting answers... Any way, the file i downloaded says it's 'restricted' and is just sitting there. I want to up grade, but I don't want a lot of unsaleable files just taking up space ?

You reinstall by putting the live CD in then reboot.
Then when it first boots click Delete till it goes into
BIOS and change boot order to CD ROM first.
Then click F10 to change and exit. Then it will take
you to take a free tour or install or check for errors
and so on.
Check for errors first!!\
Then when it passes install.
Then it will take you to the window to install//

Put in the info for you, but when you get to
Partition set up use erase and us all of disk.
That will wipe clean your PC.

If you have any files you want saved do that first
cause it will wipe them clean, lost!

Then when done reboot hit delete till you go back
in there and reorder to first floppy. Hit F10 to save change.

Here is where you can get your suff like Flash.

DO NOT USE THEIR JAVA COMMAND!

Use this: sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-plugin sun-java6-fonts

Dawn, if you have a fast internet access, you don't need the CD to upgrade, you can just do it online I think. Is that what you want to do? If so, we can assist you, the upgrade is not really complicated from internet.

Then we can see later about Flash ;)

Can you help with this problem?
