synaptic package manager is not working

I can't install any software and gives a message which read...
E: Type 'usage:' is not known on line 52 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
E: The list of sources could not be read.
Go to the repository dialog to correct the problem.
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.

As message sais you have problem with line 52 in your source list.Type in terminal

cat /etc/apt/sources.list

and post output here so we can see your source list and fix it.
