Ubuntu shuts down when playing games

Everytime I play supertuxkart my ubuntu computer shuts down in the middle of the game. Why is that?

When play you your pc is connected has the battery or on the run.

and no it's not normal that your pc will stop itself.

See if the game your playing is compatible with the version of Ubuntu
you are using, some games aren't. Also, if it is, try reinstalling the
game, that usually solves the problem.

I use it plugged in and I have Ubuntu version 10.04. I thought it was problems with 11.04 so I downgraded and I found out it is the game. Is it my laptop or my hardware?

Did you have any issues with other 3D games played for an extended period of time, or only this one? Perhaps the laptop is overheating and shutting itself down.
