Packaging current version supercollider

Asked by Marcin Pączkowski

Hello,
I'm the release manager for the current version of SuperCollider. I wanted to ask who to contact to inquire about issues with packaging SuperCollider for Ubuntu, particularly to make the current release(s) available for the LTS versions of Ubuntu.
Regards,
Marcin

Ubuntu copies the supercollider package from Debian, and also in Debian there is only version 3.11.2 (or lower) see e.g. https://tracker.debian.org/pkg/supercollider

Outline of steps for getting 3.12.0 into Ubuntu are as follows:
Create a bug report in the Debian bug tracker to request that Debian update their package
When Debian has updated the version (not only in experimental, but also in testing and/or (un)stable) then it will be taken into Ubuntu's development version (currently 21.10).

An upgrade of the existing supercollider package in Ubuntu 20.04 LTS is not planned, and may be done only in specific circumstances, see faq 3037

What I did not mention in my first answer is a PPA (personal package archive).
There is even a "SuperCollider" group with a PPA, but that seems inactive, already for years.
https://launchpad.net/~supercollider/+archive/ubuntu/ppa

Maybe you can participate in the group and provide current versions in the already-existing PPA.
Try contacting the admins on https://launchpad.net/~supercollider

Thanks, I'll try to contact that PPA team.
