will sun java software down load to Ubuntu

Asked by bill

The Sun Java download instructions do not mention Ubuntu. Will Java still download? Also I see lots of references to Java in the Synaptic pkg. mgr. I have no idea which ones to implement and some seem redundant. I am about to take a software course using the Java and would rather not use my Msoft loaded hardware.-----------bill

Various java implementations exist in the repositories. You can install the official JDK by installing 'sun-java6-jdk'.

Netbeans (a popular Java IDE) can be installed by installing the 'netbeans' package.
