Running and compiling the JAVA Programs in UBUNTU 10.10

Dear Sir,

I have installed Open jdk via Ubuntu software center.
I want to type and compile java programs in ubuntu.

I have searched and gone through many sites, but none of them solves my problem.

So please explain me how to run and compile java programs.
