upgrade java

Asked by Mark Williams

I am having problems upgrading my java 1.6.0.18 to 1.6.0.20. There is a casting bug in the .18 release and my juniper VPN keeps disconnecting the session. Upgrade to the .20 is supposedly the fix. I installed the newer version in it's own directory but getting firefox to recognize it is not happening. Would appreciate any help. Firefox only sees the .18 version installed through the software center. I am on Ubuntu 10,04 LTS

Hi Rohan,

The only option I can see in the upgrade software center is the .18 version. I do not see an option at all for the .20. Also, the Iced Tea browser plugin is showing 1.6.0.18.

Is there a way I can manually upgrade the .18 version?

Rohan,

I put my ubuntu v 9 back on and it allowed me to use the Java Plugin from sun. This worked fine. I didn't see any options to use that plugin on ubuntu 10. Not sure that is the exact issue, but Ubuntu 9 is working great.

Mark,

In order to install Sun's Java in Lucid you need to enable the "partner" repository, once it's enabled:

apt-cache policy sun-java6-plugin
  sun-java6-plugin:
  Candidate: 6.20dlj-1ubuntu3

For next time I guess,
George
