Will jaunty receive an update for the 6.19 jdk?

Asked by adamgmetzler

I need to know whether this package will be back-ported or not as it contains 27 security fixes that are critical in nature. If not thats fine I will install the bin blob from oracle, but, I would much rather have packages handled by apt so as not to screw up the default jdk and jre.

This does not answer my question. I don't need to know how to install the binary blob, I need to know, from the package maintainer if this will become a security back port as it is a security update for java not a bug fix. I know how to install and set up using the binary blob, I've been developing java applications for almost ten years now and I have been using linux for about halve that amount for my development box. I just wanted to know, so that I continue to use the ones in the repository, if they will be back porting.

"Users of Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron will probably (in due time?) receive this update automatically, from the update function of Ubuntu itself.

Users of other Ubuntu versions, including 9.10 Karmic Koala, will need to update manually. I've provided a how-to:

Can you help with this problem?
