Want darker color for empty squares in Sudoku

Asked by Histesh Shah

I want to have darker colors for the empty squares in the Sudoku puzzle. The white hurts my eyes. No matter which of the themes that come with Ubuntu 12.04 I try, the empty squares remain white. Is there some settings file or css file or config file that I can edit to change #ffffff or thereabouts to something darker like #aaaaaa or #999999.

May be able to tweak the script yourself. Backup and and all files you edit before making changes

I had seen that before posting my question. Unfortunately, it doesn't point to what I want. That bug has "Bugzilla patch to fix missing borders in Sudoku" and refers to making the 3x3 borders more distinct.
Just to make it clear I want each individual empty square to be a color other than white. Editing the source is beyond me. I was hoping there would be a text file somewhere that I could edit.

Can you help with this problem?
