I keep getting asked for an administrative password to edit my applications, I've never set one. Have I got a pre-set password? How do I find it? Help would be greatly apprieciated.

Asked by Regina Edwin

This isn't a pre-owned computer and I know for a fact that I didn't change or set any passwords. I didn't even know I needed one.
I'd be really grateful if you could help me out here.

Much Obliged.

Oh and by the way, I'm not great with computers, could you possibly answer in simple terms?
Thank you very much!

You can reset your password by rebooting and holding shift, you can then select recovery mode then select root, you can now run:

cd /home; ls

ls == LS in lower case

You can now see your username(s). You can now run:

passwd foo

replace foo with your username. E.g.:

passwd andy

Then reboot by running:

reboot

You can now log on as your username with the password you just set. You do need a password to make the OS work

Can you help with this problem?
