password for administration access

Asked by Christopher Crisp

When logging in, it ask for admin password, which a person told three different ones and none of them work. Also need to add plug-ins, when asked for, it also ask for admin password. Can not download apps for plug-ins' because of not knowing password. Some one gave me a Linux system, with Ubuntu on it and I am new to this system. So-so knowledge of computers, so any help would be greatly appreciated !, Thanks. Any answers. Send to <email address hidden> and thanks again.

Nobody will email you directly. Replys will occur HERE. This will create a flow which OTHERS can then read. The idea of a forum is to SHARE fixes, not to recruit someone to email you directlty.

If you hold shift at boot, select recovery mode then select root. You can now run:

passwd user

replace user with your username. Eg:

passwd andy

You can then run:

reboot

and login as your username with the new password.

Can you help with this problem?
