10.10 Authentication problems

Asked by Bruce Forrest

I'm trying to install software, through the software centre, on my 10.10 installation, but whenever I get the prompt to enter my password to authenticate it, it doesn't work.
I'm entering the correct password, but all I'm getting is this; after the password is entered the password dialogue disappears and is replaced by two buttons with cancel and authenticate on them, clicking either one of them doesn't work, and I can't can't get any further with what I'm doing. This also happens any other time I need to enter my password for authorisation/authentication.

Sorry, I don't know what the output was because I wasn't using the terminal, I was using the Software Centre. How do I get the output when I'm using the Software Centre?

yeah that's cool. So it doesn't work in software centre, or is it another app?

It doesn't work in Software Centre, or any other time I need to enter my password to authenticate a session.

Ok try:

sudo software-center

Does that work?

Yes, that worked!
So, is this a one off thing I need to do, or do I need to do it every time I use the Software Centre?

Unfortunately si, seems there is an issue with your gksudo. You could try:

sudo apt-get -y --reinstall install gksu

May help
