on terminal window it won't accept my password

Asked by C. Fletcher

I finally found the terminal window! Tried using it and it asked for my password, which I entered, but it won't accept it - wrong password. How do I find out if I entered a different password while loading Ubuntu?

Yes, I am stupid with computer technology, but this is so time-consuming that windows is calling me back!

What exactly is asking for your password -- what is the command you are entering? It could be that you are requesting the "root" account password, rather than your own account.

Are you opening a terminal from the applications menu, or by using Ctrl+Alt+T ?

and what happens when you type your password and press enter. Note that for security reasons (not disclosing length of your password when you post output onto the net, for example), there will be no output as you type, however the computer will check your total password when you press enter.

Can you help with this problem?
