where do I set administrative passwords in ubuntu 10.10

Trying to install a printer get to a point and it asks for a (root) administrative password, thought it was login password, window says incorect

How are you installing the printer?

downloaded the software form Lexmark, and running it though terminal.

then run the command you are running prefixed with sudo, it will work

You click on the software link and it starts itself running will not install with out the admin password. So were is it or what is it?

run it from terminal
