Hello,

subversion is 1.7.9 in Saucy right now. I'm not sure if 1.8 will be included in the stable release (almost one month).
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/saucy/+source/subversion

You can report a bug and ask the developers what they will do.

Ubuntu is taking over most packages from Debian, and Debian also is still on 1.7.9, see http://packages.debian.org/search?keywords=subversion&searchon=names&suite=all&section=all

The normal way is that Debian upgrades to a new package version, and Ubuntu will take over to the next Ubuntu release.

You could trigger Debian to upgrade to 1.8, and then you can expect that this version will also show up in the next Ubuntu release.

Of course you can always download the source and compile it yourself, or you might find someone who is offering that new version in a PPA, look at e.g. https://launchpad.net/~ondrej/+archive/apache2

The version 1.8.0 of Subversion was released about 3 weeks after the FeatureDefinitionFreeze for Saucy Salamander, so it could not be added to the release anymore.
But you should expect PPAs with subversion 1.8 to be available after the final release. They are of cause not official Ubuntu packages.

Can you help with this problem?
