Sphinx has UnixODBC support. I use an old version on som serveres. I have compiled the old version and in the process added odbc support.

Now I am installing it on a new 12.04 server and would like to use the package, but can't get the ODBC support working, so suspected that there is no support in this packagede.

After reading the build log I can se that ODBC is not supported :-( so I will have to compile it with the option --with-unixodbc to make it work.

I think it would be nice to have that option in the package.

You can suggest it by reporting a bug to get the ball rolling in a terminal enter

ubuntu-bug sphinxsearch

Mark your bug as a Wishlist and suggest that either the package should be built with ODBC support by default or a new package created with ODBC support included. No guarantees but at least the package maintainers will know somebody wants this feature.
