Possible to have 2.0.3-release version in precise?

Asked by marstonstudio

The 2.0.3-release version of sphinx search was recently released and it looks like the sphinx team is publishing deb packages as well. Very excited that sphinx is getting updated in precise. Possible to update to 2.0.3-release instead of 2.0.2-beta for when precise ships as LTS?

I suggest you report a bug stating what feaures and bug fixes are in the new version and it may get included.

https://launchpad.net/~chris-lea/+archive/sphinxsearch?field.series_filter=precise

This PPA has the app you desire so if it is NOT in the install you can add that and install 2.0.3

2.0.3-release changed the maximum number of fields from 32 to 256, which was important enough for me to need to upgrade.

You can use the PPA I gave but if you report a bug stating the extra feature it may get upgraded in the official repo. If you run:

ubuntu-bug sphinxsearch

It will start the process.

actionparsnip, I just can't understand why we should stay on beta version of this project instead of release version. I think upgrading from beta to stable release is what we really need in next Ubuntu LTS release.

Here is the link with changes that made in Sphinx from 2.0.2-beta to 2.0.3-release: http://sphinxsearch.com/bugs/changelog_page.php?version_id=20

As we can see, some bugs was fixed, I listed some critical (for my opinion) ones below:

Error searching for words starting with $ (dollar sign)
  Indexer cannot properly use unpack_mysqlcompress()
master agent communication got slowed down for a large packet
Searchd hangs indefinitely after SphinxQL multiquery to two separate indexes followed by rotate
libsphinxclient failed to query distributed index with agents

In 2.0.3-release was closed 17 issues.

Do we really need run "ubuntu-bug sphinxsearch" and generate extra trafic, to report all this bugs here, while them already fixed and what we just have to do is upgrade?

PS: Here is changelog for all versions: http://sphinxsearch.com/bugs/changelog_page.php May be it will be usefull for someone.

Oh, now we do the same job and extra traffic :) I create a bug report too: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sphinxsearch/+bug/930750

I marked it as duplicate because you was faster.)
