spamassassin upgrade

In my server i have exim4 with spamassassin 3.1.7. What is the correct procedure ti upgrade spamassassin to a recent release ?
I don't want recompile the sources, but use apt-get instead.

If you use spamassassin 3.1.7. I believe that you use Dapper.If that is the case you can not upgrade with

sudo apt-get upgrade

because newer versions of package are not available for Dapper.You can try to download Hardy version from http://packages.ubuntu.com/search?keywords=spamassassin&searchon=names&suite=hardy&section=all but I don't know is that a smart move because of dependencies.You can upgrade your server to Hardy following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades
