Sound juicer randomly freezes the system when ripping cds with defects

Asked by will_in_wi

Binary package hint: sound-juicer

I am seeing freezing while ripping cds using sound juicer with hardy. The computer only seems to freeze when there are bad blocks on the cd. When I have a freeze, currently playing music skips, the cd drive appears to stop reading, and the hard drive light is on solid.

What is the bug # of the dup? You forgot to mark the bug as a duplicate.

I didn't forget, but looking for the exact number of the hundred of duplicates we get every week is quite some work and I prefer to focus on fixing issues

there is bug #106790 for example

Then would you give me some guidance? I reopened bug #106790 and you said not to reopen it. So I created a new bug and you are telling me that it is a duplicate. When a bug is marked as a duplicate I subscribe to the dup so that I can test solutions and help if possible. If this bug is a dup and bug #106790 is invalid, would you tell me where my problem is in the bug database as an open bug that will be worked on?

Thanks

did you read the comments on the other bug? the issue seems to be a linux one, nothing the software is doing should block the system, there is a bug number mentionned there too

Ok, thanks. I had read through the comments and looked at the other bug report but it said that it was specific to the Toshiba Satellite A75, not the computer I have. Also, that bug specifies that it happens all the time. I never see a freeze except when I am using sound juicer to rip cds. I will try the noacpi fix though. I don't understand how that would effect a userspace application.
