Drive Cycles Up and Down in a loop on damaged tracks

Asked by stardotstar

I have not searched in great detail on this but I am hoping this is not a real problem but something in my configuration!

I have been ripping all my collection to ogg and copying onto a mass storage for wireless streaming in a new system and found that SJ is amazing at ripping discs that are so damaged they will not play on anything else! However, on some really bad discs the software seems to hang and needs to be killed - the cd drive cycles up and down in a loop - I would have expected a timeout or error - this is important since I am using this process to determine which discs will need repairing.

Any advice greatly appreciated!

This is a problem mostly caused by the way discs are read by the operating system, so it's a difficult one for SJ to avoid.

However, I can see how it could be useful for SJ to abandon excessively long rips; please consider filing a bug against SoundJuicer on the GNOME Bugzilla:

If you don't want to, I'll be happy to do it for you. Just say the word!

Hope this helps.

Thanks Phil, that makes sense.

I don't really think it is a bug so much as a feature request the way you explained it to me - so I do not feel compelled to persue it further.

Thanks for the consideration.
