You have to close all software manager, if tthere are two managers active you get this error.
so close them all, and run sudo apt-get update, and sudo apt-get upgrade

Thank you for your help but I found the problem ok and resolved it. However, I have found another very serious problem. After downloading Linux Media Player (Which failed to install with an error) I am now unable to download any other program as they now all crash due to the problem caused by the failed Linux Media player. Nothing will now install from the ubuntu software manager.

Further information on the Linux Media Player problem. The error message I get is ( Package operation failed) . I get this when I try to install any program it does not matter which one. If I look in the details area on the popup I see at the bottom of the install list (errors were encountered while processing ttf - mscorefonts -installer)

the "download process is prob. interrupted": errors were encountered while processing ttf - mscorefonts -installer
is linux media player a programm, or part of a programm?
please try: sudo dpkg --remove --force-remove-reinstreq ttf - mscorefonts -installer
then sudo apt-get update

I am also getting a message (waiting for other software managers to quit) and nothing will download. How can we fix this?

I am also getting this message, however I don't have any other managers open.

Can you help with this problem?
