No software listed in software center

I recently upgraded to ubuntu 9.10 from 9.04, when I open the software center, It shows "0 Items available" when I click on Get Free software, or even when i click "Installed Programs"

Well I uninstalled and re-installed the software center and now its working.

authentication pass word or simply pass word to download a free software is impossible for me. any solution?
