Cannot install or remove software packages from Ubuntu software center

Asked by mikebeam

When click on systems, then under Administrator -- Software Center, All the options come up on screen. However, the install/remove option under "File" cannot be highlighted; There doesn't seem to be anyway to install or remove software to customize my OS. (This is a brand new install of Ubuntu 9.10 Netbook Remix -- installed just 10 hours ago)

I did a complete removal of the palm-novacom file with the Synaptic Package Manager. That solved my problem. Thanks for the help though.
