Samuel
Please go to the site below.

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

It will show 13.10 is EOL (end of life). You must install a supported release. 14.04 will work. 16.04 is supported longer. I do not know if you can upgrade from 13.10 to 14.04, as 13.10 has been EOL for more than 2 years.

Software Centre is also part of the default install. What is the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a

Thanks

It's 16.04 that I'm using. I installed it in VMware workstation. There's no software Centre in it. only Ubuntu software which shows only installed software and no where to search for and download new softwares

Enable the universe repository and you can install it using apt-get

Did you by any chance install the server flavour then install the desktop on top of it?

OK, enable the report and install away. If you want a GUI package manager then there is also Synaptic

@Samuel: a Google search for "install synaptic ubuntu" will answer those kinds of Ubuntu questions

It is best to first search via Google before asking the question here....
