Installing driver for Brother printer

I have a problem installing the driver for Brother laser printer ref.HL-1110 in my UBUNTU 12.04 operating system (64bit).
There seems to be a driver in the my data base for HL-1110 Series 2 which has communicated with the printer , but it did not print any data; all I got from the printer is blank page.

Then I downloaded the recommended driver from Brother site, and logged on with my root account, the operating system would not allow me to install it.

Any help is appreciated.

What is the output of:

lsb_release -a; uname -a; lsusb
