How to put my home directory on another Hard Drive

Asked by Rich.b

I would like to build a new desktop PC, with a SSHD plus a normal HD. I will be installing Ubuntu 14:04 64 bit or latest OS at the time.

I would like to put the home folder on the normal HD and the OS on the SSHD drive.

I have a Corsair TX550M PSU which I will using for the new PC.

Any advice please including hardware broad & processor .

Will be doing normal internet access plus picture and video editing.

Thank you for any help.

Richard

Use the 'something else' option during installation. You can make partitions as you need a swap partition of equal or larger than your RAM (I assume you have more than 2Gb RAM). Then the rest for / formatted to Ext4. You can then make your /home partition formatted to Ext4 on the other drive.

Fstab will be created appropriately.
