Have you tried this procedure?

https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/25317/

I quote:

"
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:smathot/cogscinl
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install zotero-standalone
"

If you report a bug and state why it should be added then it may get added to the official repositories.

this is already packaged in debian unstable and should make it into Saucy.

Can you help with this problem?
