When it comes to running Windows programs on Linux the best advice is, if at all possible, don't. You can usually find a program written for Linux to do the job and in many cases its officially supported and in the software centre.

Perhaps you can tell us what programs you want and what they do and we can suggest suitable alternatives.

Where no alternative exists, which for most people is games, you can try Wine but its far from perfect some programs work well others are so bad to be unusable check the application database
http://appdb.winehq.org/

In a few circumstances only Windows will do in which case your only option is to either dual boot or install windows in a virtual PC using Virtualbox or similar software. Dual booting or virtualisation software does however require you to have a legal copy of Windows.

Can you help with this problem?
