cannot install steam on my laptop

Asked by Ryan Schencks

im new to ubuntu and everytime i try to install steam i get this error message

This error could be caused by required additional software packages which are missing or not installable. Furthermore there could be a conflict between software packages which are not allowed to be installed at the same time.

The following packages have unmet dependencies:

steam64: Depends: steam (= 1.0.0.27ubuntu1) but it is not going to be installed

any and all help would be great and thanks in advance

i went to another answer site and this is what i came up with after follwing the instructions

What version of Ubuntu do you have?

For 12.04 and 12.10 it should be in the software centre. Open the software centre and type "steam" without the quotes and it should be found. I can certainly see it on my 12.04 system.

Also see here:

Hi,

Agreed with @Warren Hill. Steam now is available through Ubuntu Software Center. Is stable from now on.

But ONLY for Ubuntu 12.04 and newer versions.

Thank you

Hi,
unfortunately TF2 is a very big game , about 12GBs . So I suggest to disable screen lock or/and suspend option (after amount of time) and leave it all night to download the game.

Before that update all the packages of your system with the commands below

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

From the Power Settings menu or/and Brightness Settings you can disable Lock or Suspend.

Thank you.
