Unable to run installed software

Asked by Sheryl Phillips

Hi This is probably very basis but new to Ubuntu. I opened up the software service centre, went to installed software section and clicked on the freeware I downloaded but it only opens onto a read only description of the s/w. It shows that it is installed and I've tried to find it in the folders but unsuccessfully. Do I have to remove and re-install? I updated Ubuntu after installing the freeware and to tell you the truth don't find it as easy to get around. Look forward to your response. Many thanks,

Hello,

It's normal, you can't run your program from your Software Center. The Software Center is only a tool intended to download and automatically install software on your PC, nothing more. But the installation will create a menu somewhere on your PC, so you don't need to open the Software Center again to find your program.

If you have the classic version of the display, you will find your program directly in the menus.
If you have the new look (unity), open the Dash (clicking on the upper icon on the left side of the screen), then type the name of your program. you sould be able to find it there.

Regards.
Enrico
