Is it the guest vmware OS that you upgraded, or is it the host OS which has vmware, itself, installed which was upgraded?

What happens when you try to start it? What messages do you see?

Whenever i try to start the vmware, a window pops up with the heading( vmware kernel module updater) and says before you can run vmware, several modules must be compiled and loaded into the running kernel. now when i click install and then after entering the password. now the vmware kernel module updater window pops up and then error window message appear saying UNABLE TO BUILD KERNEL MODULE see log file /temp/vmware-root/setup-2788.log for details.
And one important thing is i cannot see my root account after the upgrade.
I did not used the root account but rather the second administrator account on the laptop to do the upgrade ie to upgrade from ubuntu 10 to ubuntu 12. please help me i really to access my files on the vmware.

I suggest you post on a vmware forum too, it's not something I have used. Why did you not use virtualbox? It's a tnne easier to use....

See comment #10 on the link:

Attached is a patch for 4.0.2, but it works for the later 4.0.3 and 4.0.4 versions too.
Google has a download for the patch too.
Or you could try the Tech preview version of the vmware player, it supposedly works.

Can you help with this problem?
