what malware scanning programs are recommended for Linux?

Hi ,

most known is clamav antivirus. To install it search in software center
about: clamtk

or via terminal do

sudo apt-get install clamav clamtk

More special programs are rkhunter :

and chkrootkit : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chkrootkit
