Ubuntu NOT an option to download K-9 Web protection program from Internet

Asked by Eddy Poston

"Windows" is NOT installed on this computer, NOR is this a Mac computer, EITHER--rather, UBUNTU Desktop is the operating system installed on this computer. When trying to download K-9 Web protection from the Internet, the ONLY TWO options are the "Windows" and "Mac" operating system buttons. When I try using K-9's "Windows" button, the download manager on this computer THEN comes back with the response that there is an "error." I want to use K-9 to filter out certain categories of web sites from being accessed, not ONLY in the areas of computer security and blocking viruses, malware, etc., but also in the areas of MORALLY OBJECTIONABLE CONTENT. Please help me find the way to download K-9, using UBUNTU. Thank you.

What is K-9?

Can you tell us what it does or provide a link. It may not be available on Linux but we may be able to suggest a suitable alternative.

Im guessing that it is a program to block access to certain websites. If so take a look here

In Reply to this Eddie Poston Said (Question #209517):

K-9 is ALSO known on the Web as "BLUE-COAT," and its Internet address for downloading its program is as follows: http://www1.k9webprotection.com/getk9/download-software

As you surmised in your response--for which I thank you--K-9 is a program that blocks Internet access during pre-set times for the Internet to be totally blocked and inaccessible, and blocks all indicated (chosen, marked) categories of web sites from being accessed, as in pornography, nudity, weapons, hate words, illegal and questionable, hackers, adult/mature content, peer-to-peer, LGBT, etc., etc., etc. Again, please help me find the way to get K-9 downloading, using UBUNTU. K-9 does NOT have a "live" tech support option, but rather, ONLY "FAQ's." I ALREADY have their "license key" number, which they emailed to me, through their automated system, but that STILL results in NOTHING, if I can't even download the program, to begin with! I have been VERY satisfied with K-9 Web protection, but with "Windows" NOT being the operating system on this computer, but rather, UBUNTU, and the computer is NOT a Mac, SO FAR, I haven't found the way to download "K-9," or "Blue-Coat" Web protection. Thank you, again.

I did answer your question directly. My question, namely, how does one download K-9 Web protection on their web site, http://www1.k9webprotection.com/getk9/download-software, using UBUNTU?

I suggest you contact K-9 to find out if there is a Linux version. Though I suspect not.

You may want mark this question as solved and ask a new question saying something like:

Looking for internet filter program to control Kids access to Websites.

I don't use one myself so I can't personally recommend one but Dansgarden is popular and I gave you details in reply #1.

There are others though and I'm sure some of the other users here will have personal experience

By contact me directly I meant exclusively. The question section is open so that everyone can read which has the advantages that.

1. If you have a similar problem to someone else you may be able to find the solution without needing to ask your own question.

2. Since there is so much stuff out there and nobody knows it all. Everybody else has seen the entire conversation so can chip in with more questions or suggestions if they feel they are relevant.

Please accept my apology if I have caused any confusion.
