Software Center is not working

I have just started to use Ubuntu. And my media players (Rythmbox and Movie Player) need extra plugins to play mp3 and ACC formatted files. Actually Gstramer extra plugins or Restricted Extra. I have already add the sources for Myanmar as instructed in launchpad web site. But when I clicked the install buttons, the Software Center was not responding. None of the package was able to install, either. Can any one help? I don't want to switch Window OS over this elegent Ubuntu.

Hi ,

how Software Center acting when you try to install another package ? Is this problem specific only on these packages ?

Try to install from terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T)

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

Then you will be able to hear your music ... etc.

But check the problem with Software Center , if is related only to these packages , then leave it , if not the we can proceed with a fix.

Hi Nik,
Thanks for your concern. My problem has been solved. It was because of the extremely poor connection of our country server. Finally, I updated many items, over 800 by using Terminal command line. It took me the whole night. Then I installed required plugins. But the undating was not done completely, rather a partial update. Any how when I restarted my computer, another problem occurrd. There was only a blank Ubuntu theme background and nothing was on it. The dask is gone. Login icon and manu bar were not there. Only the arrow is there and it's movable. What's wrong? Please, do me a favor if you can. Thanks!
