Software Center waiting for apt-get to exit

Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Software Center 5.2.5

Anytime I try to install a software or update a driver or a software either via Software Center, Update Manager or Terminal, it gives me a message saying "waiting for apt-get to exit" and freezes. I've installed Ubuntu yesterday and cannot install anything.

Hello,

restart your Ubuntu system and check no other application run . No Update Manager , or Software Center.

Then open a terminal only . (ctrl+alt+t Keys Combo)

And apply bellow commands

++++++++++++++++++++++++++
sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/lock
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
++++++++++++++++++++++++++

you can copy-paste commands from here in terminal for more accuracy. One line at time.
