Something called searching is running in software center

Asked by A.K.Karthikeyan

Hi, I launched software center and gave a program to be installed. To my suprise, I found something called searching is getting installed. See this pic: https://joindiaspora.s3.amazonaws.com/uploads/images/scaled_full_b8bbb9c13a41332b397e.png

It kept going on and on and I don't know what to do. I am unable to install any software now :-(

Any fix for this?

Hello, i have the same problem.
I think i know when it occured.
When installing dropbox, for some reason the installation stopped when verifying package or something. after one hour or so, there was an power outage in the building, and the computer shut down wrongly. When i turned it back on, it seemt like the dropbox installation had changed into "searching", and one (out of two) core of my cpu was then working constantly at 100%.

I am pretty new to using ubuntu (zorin).
I tried closing the software center, and typing "sudo fuser -vki /var/lib/dpkg/lock;sudo dpkg --configure -a" in terminal.
It didn't get me really far, there was an error at the bottom, saying: "dpkg: error: unknown option --config
I feel like i'm into deep water, not knowing the consequences of the commands available
Where do i go from here?

I tried again today, since both my cpu cores are now at 100% and 80-100%.
It is litteraly getting hot quickly, and i'm starting to feel desperate.
For some reason i got another error today: dpkg: error: dpkg status database is locked by another process

please help
