Ubuntu Software Center Opens Then Immediately Closes

Asked by lrs52200

I am unable to use the software center. I click the icon in the menu bar, the program opens and immediately closes. I read somewhere that I could run it from the terminal if I entered the command: software-center. Having done so, this is what it reads:

Can anyone help me? I am not very familiar with Ubuntu. I can open the terminal and type whatever you tell me to, but please don't assume I'll know how to accomplish this fix without the details.......

Thank you!!!!! :)

Then I suggest you report a bug. Quantal is in NO way ready or stable. You WILL get bugs and feature holes running up to and even a little after release. It is not ready for the normal user so you will be sending a lot of time fixing this stuff yourself. If you are unable to do this or you cannot work around it I suggest you wipe out Quantal and reinstall with Precise which is stale and will work. If you are happy to put up with the bugs and feature holes in Quantal but want to report bugs to get the OS ready for release in October then by all means use Quantal.

Quantal has 3 months of development left in it, which is 25% of the coding time, what did you expect???

Thank you very much for your help. I have one question though which I don't think you can answer......

How is Quantal getting installed? I installed Ubuntu 11.04 and only updated as far as 12.04
I never went to 12.10
How could it have updated by itself when I tell it that I only want to be "notified" of LTS updates?

This isn't the first time its happened. Over the past month, I've had to reinstall my OS several times (literally) because this keeps happening......

What could I be doing wrong?

Under normal config, the OS will only update to stale releases. You probably used the -d option on do-release-upgrade to get the development release (Quantal). If the OS is new to you, you will reinstall a fair bit. It's part of learning the OS if you want to tinker and play :)
