using ubuntu: how to install software... ?

Asked by Javier López

Why is it that when I try to install anything on ubuntu it never has all the files required?
tried to install "soundconverter" but no "intltool".
wouldnt it be nice to be able to get a program and just install it without the extra bullshit of downloading extra tools and libraries.
I am new to ubuntu and i have found it to be very unstable, most of it does'nt even work!

./configure- not working
make -not working
make install -not working
battery monitor- not working
modem manager- not working
constantly asking to unlock keyring- WTF!
constantly showing major errors and shutting down

ubuntu 12 is the worst most unreliable program i have ever used- I have had to use a windows installed computer just to look at e-mails and to write this message. terrible. is anything actuallly tested or is canonical just releasing shit as a joke?

You don't need to use that, you should use software centre and install using the debs. You are trying to compile the packages. If you REALLY want to use that method (For whatever reason), you will need the build-deps for the package so that you can build the package.

Why are you not using software centre?? Both of the apps you are trying to install are there, so you can install the software easily with:

sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install intltool soundconverter

And it will install..

"I am new to ubuntu and i have found it to be very unstable, most of it does'nt even work!"

Your account is from 2007!.

When you do packaging or doing direct installations from source you are not a newby.

And I can not see any of:

./configure- not working
make -not working
make install -not working
battery monitor- not working
modem manager- not working
constantly asking to unlock keyring- WTF!
constantly showing major errors and shutting down

Ubuntu12.04 is the stabelst Linux I know, I know a bunch of actual ones(fedora,opensue,debian,arch,..., and so on) and use them at minimum sometimes.

This suggest me that your installation is verry damaged of the computer you use.

You should do a fresh install at minimum with a checksummed download. At best you do this a a different computer, when this is possible.

Really! It can not come from the 12.04 realese what you discribe.

actionsparnship's suggestion to use software center is quite a good one. Doing install from source of all programs is heavy work and error prunig. Do you coming from gentoo?

So why are compiling code, when debs for the apps are already in the repos and easily installable with software centre??

Can you help with this problem?
