I'm having the same problem (I've started a separate conversation on it). When I did sudo apt-get update; lsb_release -a, I got:

Failed to exec method /usr/lib/apt/methods/cdrom
E: Method cdrom has died unexpectedly!
E: Sub-process cdrom returned an error code (100)
E: Method /usr/lib/apt/methods/cdrom did not start correctly

Run:

gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list

comment out the top few lines which reference the CD by using a hash character.

Can you help with this problem?
