For reasons best known to Canonical, it has been dropped. The Skype download is OK but is not in the list of Ubuntu supported and trusted applications. Hundreds of us are using it so go ahead and install.

Inesh is so completely wrong:

andy@D420:~$ apt-cache policy skype
skype:
  Installed: 2.2.0.35-1
  Candidate: 2.2.0.35-1
  Version table:
 *** 2.2.0.35-1 0
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
     2.2.0.35-0precise3 0
        500 http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu/ precise/partner i386 Packages
andy@D420:~$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Release: 12.04
Codename: precise

All you have to do is enable the partner repo and it will be available, alternatively you can grab the deb from the skype website which is where I got mine from and is why there is one not from the repos. It has not been 'dropped' at all.

Can you help with this problem?
