Are there any programs like Adobe Framemaker for Ubuntu?

I'm just looking for a recommendation for a program that is like Adobe FrameMaker that is open source. Nothing comes up in the searches that I have done.

framemaker is ancient. don't remember what it does. i'm guessing it's a dtp program. you can use scribus for your dtp.

Hi!

FrameMaker 6 (possible also newer versions) works nicely in ubuntu under wine. Just install "wine" and execute the "Setup.exe" install program in the FM CD.

And yes, FM is ancient but is a superior word processor and DTP application. I was very used to it 10 year ago and I still miss it becouse there is not a good replacement for it. I am still to see a better WYSISYG equation editor.

You can work in a somehow similar way by using Libreoffice styles. Libreoffice is quite style-oriented, but not as much as FM or mark-up languages like Latex or SGML. Still it has some nice features like style inheritance and a good set of standard pre-defined styles.
