Designate substitute package to meet dependency

Asked by Jobo

I'm trying to install an old package (Chandler) that was made for Ubuntu 8.10 64-bit in Ubuntu 10.04 64-bit.

Maybe it will work; maybe not. But there is a dependency that is unmet, seemingly only because the name of the package has changed: The 8.10 deb is looking for "python-zopeinterface," but in 10.04 this is called "python-zope.interface."

Is there a way when running "dpkg -i ..." to tell it to substitute one package for another? I know that I can run dpkg with "--ignore-depends=python-zopeinterface," but I don't know enough about how applications, when running, look for dependencies to know whether this will work or not.

Thanks,
Jobo
