what is a good program for videochat on ubuntu? i am trying to videochat with my friend from overseas using a webcam thank you

the default empathy IM is a very good software for video chat. alternatively, skype is available for linux too.

skype video chat doesnt work either, is there any other videochat programs?

Skype works for me...can you tell me what is the issue you are facing while installing Skype? Follow the below link for Skype installation in Ubuntu

You can also use gmail's videochat / Google+ 's hangout option.

when i click on skype videochat nothing happens the screen just turns black
