Does UBUNTU 11.04 need virus protection?

I have been using UBUNTU for some time. Is virus protection software necessary for 11.04 UBUNTU?

I have not seen any software but was curious. If one is running a program in an emulator (say a windows emulator) can a virus affect the computer in a virtual window environment?

are there any online groups that share information about ubuntu where I could learn more? Thanks!

You only need AV if you run a mail server or a file server with Windows clients. Otherwise you are ok
